Audio ducking

When you press the hotkey, system volume drops so background music and videos don't bleed into your transcript.

FAQ

Is WCWS Voice really free?

Yes — free to download, free to use. If you pick Deepgram, you bring your own API key. The local Whisper engine has no costs at all.

Will it work on my old Intel Mac?

Yes. The DMG ships a universal binary that runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 14 Sonoma or newer).

Why does it ask for Accessibility permission?

macOS requires Accessibility access to send keystrokes into other apps — that's how WCWS Voice types your transcribed text into the app you're focused on.

Can I change the hotkey?

Yes. In Settings → Shortcuts, hold any key combination — including symbol keys like / or - which most shortcut systems reject.

What is AI Rewrite?

AI Rewrite is a separate hotkey that rewrites any text you've selected — in any app. Select some text, press the hotkey (e.g. Ctrl+R), and the rewritten version replaces it instantly. The built-in engine runs Qwen 2.5 locally on your Mac via Metal — no internet needed. You can also route it through OpenRouter or Ollama.

Does it support languages other than English?

Deepgram Nova-3 is multilingual out of the box. Local Whisper supports 99 languages with the multilingual model variants.

How big is the download?

About 14 MB for the app itself. Local Whisper models download on first use — ranging from 75 MB (tiny.en) to ~1.5 GB (medium).
